Rome’s god once reminded her …
remember to rule the people’s by your strength
- this shall be your art:
To impose abiding peace,
To spare the conquered, battle down the proud.
But as she doubted, she turned to God. He didn’t only encourage fight but fought,
the arms of the proud he hath broken. But he was also a god for within, who gave
wisdom unto the wise and
knowledge to them that have understanding, the god who
has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. Yes he would fight for you. Sometimes. But more, he taught lessons, favored the humble over the proud. This teacher, this concerned king who favors the lessor, still appeals but not to the triumph seekers, to those who concerns are softer , , .
Was He for Rome? Was Rome introspective? Was she humble? Was this the god for her to turn to?
